About this job
If your engine has a timing belt (many have a chain instead), it needs replacing at the interval in your owner's manual, often every 100,000–160,000 km or seven to ten years. A snapped belt can wreck the engine, so it's not one to leave.
We recommend replacing the water pump at the same time where it's driven by the belt.
Signs you might need it
- Reached the kilometre or age interval
- No record of a belt change on a used vehicle
- Ticking or whining from the front of the engine
What's included
- New timing belt kit (belt, tensioner, idlers)
- Water pump if quoted
- Timing check
- Test run
Plus travel (mobile), disposal of old parts. Confirm the mechanic's warranty before booking.

Questions about timing belt replacement
How long does timing belt replacement take?
Usually 3–5 hours. Your mechanic will tell you if your vehicle needs longer.
Can it be done at my home?
In most cases, yes. Mobile mechanics need a safe, level place where they're allowed to work, such as a driveway, carport or quiet street (check your strata rules). If your job needs a shop we'll let you know before you pay anything.
Is the price fixed?
Yes. The price on your quote is what you pay. If the mechanic finds something else, they'll explain it and give you a separate price – nothing extra is done without your OK.
Is the work guaranteed?
Confirm your mechanic's parts and labour warranty before booking. See our warranty and repair concerns page for more information.
